The ins and outs of the classroom lives of a group of students who attend the fictional Hartley High School in Sydney.

Set in the 1940s, the story of a post office clerk and part-time pianist (Jacki Weaver) who inadvertently becomes the star of a national radio serial. Featuring 12 Australian songs from that period.
