While her husband is away, Bluebeard's seventh wife sets out to discover all the secrets hidden in the castle using the keys he has given her. But she fails to see that by doing so she will be instrumental in creating a series of tragic events.

In Prague, a professorial puppet, with metal pincers for hands and an open book for a hat, takes a boy as a pupil. First, the professor empties fluff and toys from the child's head, leaving him without the top of his head for most of the film. The professor then teaches the lad about illusions and perspectives, the pursuit of an object through exploring a bank of drawers, divining an object, and the migration of forms. The child then brings out a box with a tarantula in it: the professor puts his "hands" into the box and describes what he feels. The boy receives a final lesson about animation and film making; then the professor gives him a brain and his own open-book hat.

On a moonless night, a character with overlong arms walks. Preceded by his shadow, he goes to an arena where he is about to perform a ritual.

A little boy, "the nameless", lives outside the world in the place he helped shape. He lives there protected and locked up at the same time. One day, sounds and sights from outside awaken his desire to see the world. He flees, pursued by his abandoned creation and terrified of the unknown. He then meets a little girl.
