Maffy Falay, now a 90 year-old Turkish jazz musician, has left his homeland for Sweden at an early age, following his passion for music. In the 60’s Maffy became a popular trumpet player in Europe. He was coveted by such jazz legends as Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and he shared the stage with Quincy Jones, Kenny Clarke, Francy Boland. Being among the few remaining members of a bygone generation, Maffy now leads a solitary life in his one-room apartment in the suburbs of Stockholm. "Maffy's Jazz" traces Maffy's relationship to music accompanying him candidly in different time frames, witnessing his alienation as he seeks to redefine his existence during a time when his generation, culture and music slowly fade away.
Brought to life from the outtakes of director Deniz Yüksel’s long-running Lale Müldür documentary, "Lale Müldür and All the Nightclubs of Istanbul" brings to light a memory of the poet alongside a previously unpublished piece of her writing. The music for the documentary, edited for Postbellek, was produced by Atonal Sounds.
