Journey to the enchanted land of Equestria, where unicorn Twilight Sparkle and her pals have adventures and learn valuable lessons about friendship.
A collection of eleven animated shorts released alongside My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks. The first eight, released as prequels in the lead-up to the film, follow individual members of the Rainbooms as they each discover the instrument that awakens their magic, from Rainbow Dash's guitar showdown with Trixie to Fluttershy calming a hamster stampede with a tambourine. The remaining three, released afterward as "encore" music videos, spotlight Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle, and Rarity in songs. Though not part of the film itself, the shorts fill in the story of how the girls' band came together.
In the lead-up to the Friendship Games, these five shorts each spotlight a different pair or trio of characters: Sunset Shimmer's failed science experiments on magic, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash's botched spy mission on Crystal Prep, Lyra and Sweetie Drops turning tryouts into an absurd rivalry, Photo Finish's chaotic yearbook photoshoot, and the boys' clashing banner designs. They set the stage and build hype for the movie without revealing any of its actual plot.
Rainbow Dash tries to spy on Crystal Prep Academy's sports team, but Pinkie Pie ruins her attempts to remain unseen.
Granny Smith absent-mindedly sold Applejack's bass guitar to Flim and Flam's pawn shop, so Applejack and her friends confront the brothers to try to get her bass back.
Sunset Shimmer studies her friends' pony hybrid transformations to better understand how magic works in the parallel world.
