Biography

José Fernández is a Spanish theatre, film and television actor born in Málaga. He trained in drama in Málaga and Madrid, rounding off his training with specialised studies in acting for the camera and techniques such as the Meisner and Chekhov methods, under the guidance of teachers including José Carlos Plaza and Graham Dixon, amongst others. His stage career began with Andalusian theatre companies such as El Carromato and Axarco Teatro, where he appeared in productions of both classical and contemporary repertoire, including *Blood Wedding*, *The Prodigious Shoemaker*, *Don Juan Tenorio* and *Today is a Party*. He subsequently continued to develop his stage craft in productions such as *A Midsummer Night’s Dream*, *Yo, Hamlet*, *El sueño cóncavo de Max* and *Fuenteovejuna* for the Melilla Golden Age Classical Theatre Festival, touring throughout Spain. In film, he has appeared in numerous feature films, notably *La Mancha Negra* by Enrique García and *Quién llorará por mí* by Paco Izquierdo, for which he won the Lorca Award for Best Film as a co-lead. His career also includes numerous short films, notably *Sálvame*, for which he received the Best Actor award at the Torremolinos Film Festival, as well as *Churrería Maravillas*, which won the Best Actor award at the Rome International Movie Awards in Rome (Italy), and at the Miami International Gold Awards, and *Nefissa*, which won the Best Andalusian Short Film Award at the Seville Film Festival, as well as appearances in television series such as *Arrayán* and *45 Revoluciones*, amongst others. In 2026, he was appointed a member of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts.

Tano works for Manuel, a businessman who’s made his fortune in the construction sector and who has a tight network of friends in local government who help him carry out his business safely, in exchange for making sure that the drugs enter and leave the city without causing any violence or making any noise. Tano knows that the golden era is long gone. Now, he’s 54 and struggling to make ends meet. His mission is to keep the drug-trafficking business from Morocco under control and to make sure the money keeps flowing, but someone has brought some samples of a new drug into the city and its effects are devastating, causing the local junkies to go completely crazy. Angel, Manuel’s son and heir to his business empire, is convinced that if they start dealing this new drug, they could go back to making the millions they were before the economic crash.
