After observing a hauntingly familiar abnormal CAT scan of a 13 year old girl, radiologist Nina Evanko battles to find the source of the young girl's sleeping disorder. What she discovers is darker and stranger than she could have imagined.

In 1960s Ukraine, at a time when many in the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc were re-evaluating the socialist system, Oleg is a former soldier in the Ukrainian Insurgent Army that fought against both Nazi Germany and the communist Soviet Union for Ukrainian independence during World War II. After an amnesty deal is reached, Oleg is released from prison camp and returns to Ukraine, where he tries but fails to find his place in peacetime society.

Two fellow athletes fall in love with the same girl. They try to get money for her treatment for cancer.

Marta, a young journalist from Kyiv investigates the ruins of an orphanage that's been destroyed by Russian missiles, trying to get to the bottom of the disappearence of dozens of children that were allegedly taken as prisoners of war by Russian forces. However, during her investigation, she's attacked and subsequently hunted by a mysterious assailant. At the same time, a rescue and retreaval team discovers an unconcious girl on a nearby riverbank, however, upon waking up, she seemingly can't seem to remember her identity nor anything about her fragmented past.
