A student is walking through the forest with his beloved. It gradually gets dark, and they realize they are lost. They wander for a long time trying to find their way. Strangers appear and attack the young man, while the girl manages to run away into the forest.

After the arrest of her husband (an “enemy of the people” in 1938), she returned with her children to her native village. But after some time she was arrested, the children were taken to different shelters, leaving only the eldest one in the village...

During World War II, a very young boy comes to a local factory to help produce weapons for the front. His father is missing, his mother is ill, and their bread ration cards have been lost.
