The series is named after a small part of Saltsjöbaden called Solsidan. It revolves around Alex and Anna who are expecting their first child and have just moved to Alex's childhood home in Saltsjöbaden, Stockholm County. Alex tries to get Anna to enjoy herself, and at the same time spend time with his childhood friend Fredde.

Five celebrities spend five days together on a castle somewhere in Sweden. Each episode (or day) centres around one of them. This person decides what to to and eat. The others get the chance to ask questions about this persons life and career.

When disillusioned Swedish knight Antonius Block returns home from the Crusades to find his country in the grips of the Black Death, he challenges Death to a chess match for his life. As children in the loving Ekdahl family, Fanny and Alexander enjoy a happy life with their parents, who run a theater company. After their father dies unexpectedly, however, the siblings end up in a joyless home when their mother, Emilie, marries a stern bishop. The bleak situation gradually grows worse as the bishop becomes more controlling, but dedicated relatives make a valiant attempt to aid Emilie, Fanny and Alexander.

In this film about Ingmar Bergman's parents, Henrik Bergman is studying for the priesthood and trying to make ends meet when he encounters the lovely, affluent Anna. Despite their social differences, Henrik and Anna fall in love, wed and move to the country. They lead a quiet life as Henrik works as a priest, but it isn't long before the simple people and plain surroundings make Anna long for a more lavish lifestyle, which causes marital stress.

In the sixties, Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) built a house on the remote island of Fårö, located in the Baltic Sea, and left Stockholm to live there. When he died, the house was preserved. A group of very special film buffs, came from all over the world, travel to Fårö in search of the genius and his legacy. A manager of an orphanage in India is sent to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he discovers a life-altering family secret.

Early in the 20th century, middle-aged lawyer Fredrik Egerman and his young wife, Anne, have still not consummated their marriage, while Fredrik's son finds himself increasingly attracted to his new stepmother. A woman is driving alone one evening, when she almost run over a man lying in the road. She gets out of the car to see. Suddenly the man attacks her. Eva Jansson's dead body is found by a local farmer, who calls the police. Soon after fashion designer Maj Berg comes driving the same road and is stopped by the police. When the road is cleared for traffic Mrs. Berg drives on but happens to get a flat tire. While changing to the spare wheel, she finds a black notebook in the ditch. Back in Stockholm she opens the notebook and finds a strange jotting that concerns her.

Prince Hamlet is the son of the late king. He hears from a ghost that the current king, Claudius, has murdered his father. Hamlet is unsure if this is true. He test the king by pretending to be insane and put on a show where the murder is reconstructed.

Pretentious critic Cornelius is writing a biography on a famous cellist and to do some research he stays in the cellist's house for a few days. He doesn't manage to get an interview with the man, but by talking to all the women who live with him, he comes to learn a lot about the musician's private life none the less. Cornelius then decides to use this information to blackmail the cellist into performing a composition that he, Cornelius, has written.

A young woman struggles with life, love and career. She is courted by a young man but is unwilling to enter into a relationship if it means limiting her freedom.
