Riko Murakami

Centered around typical Japanese food, a solitary salesman travelling through the country for business purposes, eats at its various establishments and experiences the various delicacies of Japanese cuisine.

Low-caste former samurai Hanayama Daikichi and his gambler friend Hanji of Yaizu, come to a once peaceful post town of Kofu. A town now filled with gamblers, prostitutes, and unscrupulous opportunists, all drawn by the smell of blood and the scent of newly-mined gold. Daikichi brings a little girl whose father has been butchered by yakuza assassins, hoping to find her family. Intrigue and violence follow the group as they must ward off a deadly female spy and a mysterious ronin with a violent past. Tension mounts as all these forces come together to unravel a secret which will unleash a wave of violence that could destroy them all.

This short film was shot with a Super 8 camera during a photo session with butoh dancer Riko Murakami, and part of the film was developed by Caffenol. The soundtrack was created by Michael Lyons and Paule Dahlstedt using the optoelectronic device Octopus. Riko dances. It was just a daydream. The white-painted skin stands out in the vague twilight.

The film follows the common sense storytelling of a dramatic film in which people meet other people and create relationships, but instead of converging into a single narrative, the aim was to create a film that diffuses and throws us into a sea of chaotic images. two couples in an uneasy relationship. Is she my fantasy, or am I her fantasy? The boundaries blur, and the anxiety about existence gradually grows.
