Segunda Natureza

"Imunidade" explores the fabulation of futures through an experimental audiovisual narrative woven by women artists. Grounded in the idea that “to speak is to act,” it replaces apocalyptic discourse with the urgency of a situated voice — the “throat of flesh” that carries the memory and corporeality of Latin America. Through vocal performances and choreographies of words, the video creates a vibratory territory of resistance, challenging historical silencing to project other ways of existing.
Imunidade
Ten years after residing in that place, even if only briefly, the filmmaker revisits the now-ruined site to explore the enduring significance it holds for the city. Engaging in conversations with his own memories, a photographer who documented patients at the facility, as well as his son, Vino Carvalho seeks to reconstruct the social imaginary that once enveloped – and still surrounds – the Bom Retiro Psychiatric Hospital. What does the history of this place reveal about society’s perception and management of mental illness?
