La Scala in Milan presents its prestigious Christmas concert with Charles Gounod's “Messe solennelle de Sainte-Cécile” (1855), one of the world's most popular sacred compositions.

From Milan's Teatro alla Scala, the traditional Christmas Concert. The program includes Francis Poulenc's “Les Animaux modèles” suite for orchestra and Charles Gounod's “Messe solennelle de Sainte-Cécile” for soloists, choir, orchestra, and obbligato organ.

Be there for a live musical gathering at Munich’s Odeonsplatz in the company of two of the classical stage’s brightest lights! Maestro Lorenzo Viotti, at the helm of the Munich Philharmonic, and virtuoso pianist Yuja Wang invite us to join them at the world-famous open-air venue, beginning the festivities with an electrifying rendition of Rachmaninov's poignant Piano Concerto No. 2. The ensemble then unveils a Spanish-inflected program: Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol leads into Chabrier's España, a "rhapsody for orchestra," before Ravel's perennially beloved Boléro, an undisputed masterpiece of orchestration, ends the concert with flair. Tosca is a melodrama of love, betrayal and death set in the revolutionary unrest of 1800. The story concerns the opera singer Floria Tosca who tries to save her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, from the brutal chief of police, Scarpia. Through-composed and expertly orchestrated it contains some of Puccini’s best-known lyrical arias and remains one of his most performed operas. In this 2022 production, an eminent cast is directed by the acclaimed Australian director Barrie Kosky – ‘the Amsterdam audience was completely swept off its feet by Kosky’s stunning production’ (Opera News).

The Spanish crown princess receives a very special present: a little person. To everyone’s amusement, he is unaware of his small stature. Before long feelings develop between the pair, but what chance do they have in a world where appearance is everything? Based on a story by Oscar Wilde, Der Zwerg (The Dwarf) is perhaps Zemlinsky’s best-known and most powerful opera. The performance marks both the first production of rising star Lorenzo Viotti as principal conductor at Dutch National Opera and the operatic debut of film and theatre director Nanouk Leopold. The heldentenor Clay Hilley performs the title role, while Infanta Clara is interpreted by soprano Lenneke Ruiten.
