In 1999 A.D., a legend of a zombie dug out of an ancient tomb spreads through a small town in Sichuan. A boy who accidentally becomes incontinent during swimming lessons is labeled a “little zombie” and subjected to collective humiliation. Instead of doing him justice, his teachers attributed it to his “unlikability”. Years later, he entered the entertainment industry as an actor, and his teacher died of blood cancer. In a dream, he meets his teacher, who wants to reconcile with him, but he is obsessed with how to become as “likeable” as his teacher asked him to be. With this in mind, he approaches some entertainment stars. It turns out that all of them live with their own scars, and not all of their hatred can be found in themselves. One of the stars teaches the man a spell that allows him to travel through time and space, to fight against the past, to be brave when courage is needed.

Ding Mao, a supermarket employee, accidentally cooks the ornamental shark kept in the store. Soon after, he starts hearing a strange voice. Travelling from a southern city to the wilds of Northeast China, he sets out to trace his father’s whereabouts. During this journey, he pieces together his father’s bizarre life through an abandoned amusement park, a zoo in winter, and the supermarket where shark meat is sold. A quirky experimental musician, a blind fortune-teller who can understand animal language, a trainer whose legs were bitten off by a shark, and a female picture book painter — guided by the mysterious voice, all these souls become intertwined.

A young couple live in a small apartment in the city. He earns little and she’s pregnant. Through their brief exchanges and moments of solitude, it becomes clear that their relationship has, without realising, edged towards crisis point.

A poem, a bloody narrative in fraction, simple and direct, full of metaphor and honesty. All in all, it is a cool ode that evokes strong emotions, poetry in motion which very much represents my own self.
