Tamilla Akhmedova

The film portrays the passengers of a compartment on a long-distance train — people from different social backgrounds — who engage in conversations, argue about various issues, reflect on important and thought-provoking topics, and share memories from their own lives.

Ostap, a young Ukrainian forester, travels to Tashkent to claim a house his aunt left him on Thirteen Poplars Street. There he meets Mastura, a local girl who, charmed by his genuine admiration, offers to show him the city’s hidden wonders. When Ostap departs, he leaves behind not just a house but the memory of a bond that transcends borders.

After retiring, former Red Army commander Iskhak Sherov returns to Kyzyltash, the town he helped build. Seeking a peaceful life, he becomes embroiled in a conflict between residents wanting a public garden and the mayor, his old comrade Namazov, who opposes it. Sherov ultimately resolves the conflict in favor of the townspeople.

Due to life circumstances, the young protagonists decide to leave their childhood homes, the places they’ve always loved, abandon their familiar way of life, and move to the capital to live and study in a large, unfamiliar city. The brothers find it difficult to adapt in the big, unfriendly city, which makes their life much less simple and familiar than it was at home. The young people seriously question the wisdom of their decision: to dramatically change their lives and completely alter everything that gave their life meaning, or to leave everything unchanged.
