Biography
Shi Tiesheng was a prolific and celebrated Chinese author, best known for his story Life of a String which was the basis of the Chen Kaige film of the same name. He was paralyzed in an accident at the age of 21, during his work as a sent-down youth. He developed uremia in 1998 and required dialysis until he died in 2010 of cerebral hemorrhage.

Life on a String
Tian Geng suffers from liver cancer and is told he has less than three months to live. A former lover takes care of him at the hospital, but he is unconsolable. However, his outlook changes when he meets a girl at hospital who lost her leg to disease at a young age and is in danger of losing her other leg, and has also lost all hope.
