Yascha Krüger is a shy forestry official who struggles with dating and tends to scare people off. While temporarily working in a forest district, he meets Mats, a photographer, and the two develop a romantic connection. At the same time, Yascha is assigned a professional task: to persuade the heirs of a recently deceased landowner to sell a private forest so it can be turned into a national park. As Yascha becomes more involved in both his work and his growing feelings for Mats, he finds himself telling lies that complicate his relationships and force him to confront what he truly wants—both personally and professionally.

Charlotte Kler has enjoyed a privileged life alongside her husband, star conductor Walter Kler, but has also jetted restlessly around the world with him. She is delighted that this is now to come to an end and the family will be reunited in Munich. But things turn out differently than she thinks: her husband secretly makes plans to take a job in New York, her daughter reproaches her and her granddaughter is not interested in her. Rosa Westphal, who runs a picturesque olive farm with her husband Benno, has high hopes for the governess with the impressive credentials. However, it seems strange to Henni that the self-confident straight-A student Luisa and the musically gifted but sensitive Julian need supervision at all - especially as the family's finances are clearly in a bad way. Henni also wonders about a secret visit to the doctor by her client, which she happens to observe.
