Hui Peng

This story depicts the treasure hunters Xun Ye, Feng Yao, Cai Qingyun, Wang Yazi, and others who encounter many dangers as they head to seek treasure at Qinling Phoenix Mountain to rescue disaster victims. With everyone’s concerted efforts in the struggle against multiple forces, such as old bureaucrats, local gentry, and foreigners, the sinister intentions of foreigners attempting to encroach on China’s national treasures are ultimately destroyed, and they succeed in averting danger.

Hoh XIl is the main habitat of the national first-class protected Tibetan antelope. Tibetan antelopes have been widely hunted by poachers because they can bring high profits. In just ten years, the total number of Tibetan antelopes decreased by two-thirds. On January 18, 1994, Sonan Dajie, deputy secretary of the Zhiduo County Party Committee of Qinghai, was shot to death during the arrest of 18 poachers. A year later, his brother-in-law and deputy secretary of the county party committee, Zaba Dorje, established the "Western Wild Yak Team," an armed, anti-poaching organization whose main purpose is to protect wild animals. Its effectiveness has been touted by environmental protection organizations at home and abroad, as well as relevant central ministries and commissions. However, just as Dhabal Dorje was preparing to "do a good job," in his own words, he was suddenly shot in the head at home and died.

The award-winning documentary Empty Mountain is about a village in the Daba Mountain area. The people who live there are very poor, but nonetheless very hopeful, and enjoy their living conditions in the mountains. Peng Hui and two film crew members interviewed and filmed in villages with no water, electricity, and minimal food resources; they worked and lived for more than six months, relying on rain, instant noodles and two tents. The result was Empty Mountain, a documentary which has already been accepted as a teaching and observational tool by Beijing Broadcasting Institute, Beijing Film Academy, Shanghai Fudan University, and Shanghai Theater Academy.
