A group of male adolescents are recruited by their parents into a bootcamp to be forged into hustlers, players, “tigueres”. This archetype is the highest idealization of the male character in Dominican and Caribbean culture. Alberto is the head coach of this camp who decides that Pablo’s time has come to join the group. But Pablo, his son, is a Tiguere in his own right, unbeknownst to Alberto, whose coming-of-age process clashes with his father’s authoritarian views. This leads Pablo on a journey of self-discovery.

Toña is a Dominican woman who escapes an abusive relationship and leaves her country. Without documents, she makes a new life in Puerto Rico and is about to put her legal status in order. Gregorio, an exiled Cuban doctor, is stuck in Puerto Rico with no legal options to normalize his immigrant status. An accident pushes them into a relationship upon which their future will depend.

Fifty-something Rosa, lying in an MRI scanner, is prompted to summon a happy memory. She plunges into a meandering, subconscious road trip with her indomitable mother, both queer, where wild imagination becomes a tender, unruly form of therapy.

In the 1950s, Lola, Gelacia, Pepa and Cira Garlobo are four young sisters who live alone on a coffee farm in the middle of the Sierra Maestra mountains. They do not want any man in the house, but the passage through the farm of a young man from the capital who is on his way to rise up with the "rebels" will change their lives at once, although they will not escape their loneliness for that.
