The year is 1947. Police captain Alexander Ratnikov is investigating a series of murders in Leningrad. The trail leads to Pavel Vedernikov, a technologist at a local fish farm. It turns out that in fact, technologist Vedernikov is a former deputy head of the Nazi concentration camp for children "Grachi" named Gunther Seiler. Skillfully posing as a Soviet citizen, Zeiler hunts for his family's art collection, which disappeared during the war. The criminal is ready to walk over corpses, just to get what he wants and go beyond the cordon. Ratnikov intends to catch Seiler at any cost: this Nazi is the only clue in the story of the captain's daughter, who disappeared during the war.

The picture tells about a difficult triangle of relations - the terminally ill woman Marie and the young couple Kira and Mark, who have lost their own child. Now they are ready to adopt Marie's five-year-old son. But the woman has a condition, she wants to make sure with her own eyes that the young family is ready for adoption. Kira and Mark are unaware of the price they will have to pay for this opportunity.

Matveev, a former illegal GRU agent in the U.S., and his wife arrive at a Turkish ski resort posing as ordinary tourists. There, they are supposed to meet with one of the Russian sleeper agents. But the CIA sets up a provocation against Matveev.

The international terrorist organization Al-Qaeda is hunting for the latest developments by Russian nuclear scientists. The terrorists plan to obtain blueprints for a nuclear mini-bomb, unlike anything else in the world. To achieve this, a certain Mahmoud is sent to Moscow. He intends to enlist the help of his longtime agent Mikhail, who has ties to the Nuclear Research Center.

In one of the chemical laboratories in Switzerland, controlled by the CIA, work on a deadly virus — intended for military use — has been completed. A quarrel over a woman named Zhenya, whom Igor eventually married, drove them apart. Reluctantly, Matveev agrees to let go of past grievances and visit Vladimirov at his country house.
