Biography

Dukhiram Swain was a highly acclaimed Indian film and television actor renowned for his defining contributions to Odia cinema. Born in Daraba in the Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha, he was a gifted linguist who could speak several languages fluently. He began his artistic journey on the stage at the Annapurna Theatre in Cuttack before making his cinematic debut in the 1960 film Sri Lokenath. Possessing a rare natural acting ability, he quickly cemented his place in the industry and achieved a legendary cult status for his masterful portrayals of antagonistic roles, eventually becoming one of the most popular villains in Ollywood history. Despite his fearsome on screen reputation as a villain, Swain was known in his real life as an incredibly social, generous, and warm hearted individual who actively participated in various community organizations. His immense versatility allowed him to effortlessly transition across a wide spectrum of characters, including heroes, comedians, and complex supporting roles. Throughout his prolific career, he delivered unforgettable performances in numerous landmark Odia films. Some of his most notable works include Matira Manisha, Jajabara, Shesha Shrabana, Phula Chandana, Paradeshi Chadhei, and Rana Bhumi, which further established his reputation as an irreplaceable talent in regional cinema. His extraordinary dedication to the craft of acting earned him prestigious accolades at both the state and national levels. He won the National Film Award for his performance in the 1976 film Shesha Shrabana and the Orissa State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1987 film Bhulihuena. Additionally, he received multiple Best Villain awards, the Orissa Sangeet Nataka Akademi Award, and the highest cinematic honor of the state, the Jayadeva Purashkar, in 1994 for his outstanding lifetime contribution to the growth and development of Odia cinema. In his personal life, he was married to Hemalata Swain, and he is survived by their two sons, Akash Kumar and Prithiviraj, a daughter named Dharitri, and several grandchildren who carry forward his family legacy.

Dr. Ajay Patanayak, a doctor by profession doesnt believe in the existing of God. His wife Basanti having no child has immense faith in God. She is also deeply attached to his brother in law Bijay. Laxmi, a neighbor has love interest with Bijay. Bijay visits Puris Sri Lokanath Temple for blessing with a hope to his sister in law gets a son. Basanti becomes pregnant and delivers a son. The happy family named the child as Lokanath after the deity. As Lokanath grows up, Bijay feels neglected by the family and leaves the house. Bijay becomes a tutor in Jaipur. In the meanwhile his love interest Laxmi marries to a Zamindar named Surya of Puri. Three year elapse, Basanti and his husband in Puri to offer oblation to Lord Sri Lokanath but they are however prevented from visiting the temple by a storm. The child Lokanath is bitten by a snake and his body is taken to cremation ground.
