When the storm started, the fishing boats were far out at sea. It would seem to be a common thing, but one fisherman did not return to the shore. Who is to blame for his death? The investigator who arrived is investigating this incident.

The film is based on the letters and memoirs of Anton Chekhov and members of his family and reconstructs the details of everyday life and of the writer's relationships with his brothers and sister.

Dr. Lyakhov lived in a small village in the desert for many years. After his wife's death, he decides to leave, but realizes that he has no right to leave the people who need him.
