Will the truth come out? Seventeen-year-old Lisa and her mother Franka move to the idyllic Black Forest because Lisa is suffering from panic attacks. But on the anniversary of a school shooting at the local high school, another tragedy occurs.

Cem and his five best friends have been a close-knit community since childhood. For him, they are his true family. But Cem is changing. He becomes more brutal and harder, threatens his friends and terrifies their relatives. After a stay in a psychiatric ward, he does not take the prescribed medication. Threats of violence and aggressive outbursts become more and more frequent. What happens inside him remains incomprehensible to the outside world. Only with Lara is he different. His world is alien to her, which is perhaps the reason why he likes her so much. Cem's friends are torn between their loyalty to their childhood friend and their fear of the ever-increasing danger he poses. At some point, this fear becomes so great that it is unleashed in a brutal act of vigilante justice.

The gripping sci-fi thriller was the first German feature film to be shot in an LED studio and deals with friendship, manipulation and social media. Jackpot! Adrian and his clique are lured into an “Escape Room Adventure”. But the supposedly harmless recreational fun turns out to be a perfidious behavioural analysis experiment conducted by two scientists. In order to be able to tailor the games exactly to the strengths, weaknesses and characteristics of the clique, they have programmed an AI. And this starts to play the friends off against each other and confront them with their deepest fears – a fight to the death begins.

“Emmett − Tief in meinem Herzen” (“Emmett – Deep in My Heart”) is a film with theatrical elements, telling the story of the 14-year-old Black teenager Emmett Till, who became the victim of a racist murder in Mississippi, USA, in 1955. This murder is considered the spark for the civil rights movement in the USA as well as a global, public-media confrontation with racism. Emmett’s story is not an exclusively Black or American story. Emmett had to die because he (allegedly) whistled after a White woman, while his killers were acquitted by an all-male, all-White jury, only to openly admit to the murder in an interview a short time later. “Cases like Emmett's are repeated in Germany and around the world. They affect us all – they are the stories of each and every one of us. Almost 70 years after Emmett Till’s murder, we live in a world that is still shaped by structural racism.
