Somewhere in rural France, a young English female tourist is sexually assaulted by two men in the countryside. After she manages to escape, a party of local hunters agree to track her in order to cover up the scandal.

An old and poor couple, Charles and Lucie, scrape by working as a concierge and an untalented antique dealer, respectively. But one day, their dreary daily routine is disrupted by the surprising news that they have inherited a luxurious house in the South of France.

Maria, a Portuguese concierge, lives in a lodge with her daughter Nidia. While cleaning the stairs, she observes the building's residents and discreetly takes notes. One day, one of them notices her.
