Known For

In the garden of a Baroque villa, a chamber orchestra is playing Mozart’s wonderful quartets and quintets, and everywhere is pervaded with echoes and references to the composer’s world. As if by magic or conjured by the imagination, figures emerge from the shadows of the labyrinthine garden: they are Mozart’s characters, and they play with – or perhaps make fun of – the guests at the party, embroiling them in their well-known amorous dalliances. This piece, in which the spectator encounters among the dreamlike medley many well-known protagonists from Mozart’s operas (including Figaro, Don Giovanni, and the Queen of the Night), is a full-length choreographic work by Massimiliano Volpini, who himself performed on stage for many years as a dancer with the Scala ensemble.
The Lover's Garden

A very special dance occasion in honour of a celestial alignment of events, the Gala des Étoiles celebrates the Ballet Corp's time-honoured tradition of a Grand Gala at La Scala as it coincides with Milan's tenure as host city of EXPO 2015. Symbolically espousing the spirit of the Universal Exposition by bringing together outstanding international talent, La Scala's étoiles Svetlana Zakharova, Roberto Bolle and Massimo Murru extend Milan's red carpet to a veritable constellation of guest dancers from around the world, including rising stars and luminaries of the ballet universe.

Lo Schiaccianoci al Teatro alla Scala

Starting from the main spire of the Duomo, right under the Madonnina, Alberto crosses the city at night, discovering the more or less hidden treasures of the Lombard capital: from the stage of the Teatro alla Scala to the basilica of S. Ambrogio, from the Brera art gallery to the library Ambrosiana, custodian of Leonardo's priceless Atlantic Codex. A journey into art that takes the viewer to the presence of Vinci's Last Supper but also among the "Seven Heavenly Palaces", the gigantic installation by Anselm Kiefer kept in the Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, or among the futurists of the Museo del Novecento. A journey into the history of the city, former capital of the Roman Empire, proud medieval municipality and one of the most splendid lordships with the Viscontis and the Sforzas. This route does not lack the most representative places of Milanese life today, such as the Central Station, the Gallery, the Navigli and the skyscrapers that have redesigned the skyline in recent decades.
Tonight in Milan

The version of Le Corsaire by Manuel Legris arrives at La Scala, his first revival of a nineteenth century classic, fully highlighting the intent and innovativeness of his choreographic approach and his musical and dramaturgic quest. With its clear and accessible plot, notable attention to musicality and relations among characters, the sumptuous and evocative décor and costumes by Luisa Spinatelli, it will be an occasion recombining the energy virtuosity, the lyricism and romanticism of one of the 19th century’s most adventurous and thrilling ballets d’action with the talents of the La Scala dancers.
Le Corsaire

Manon, a winsome girl with dangerously innocent allure, gives in to the temptation of wealth and becomes calculating and corrupt. For her brother Lescaut she is a bargaining chip, for old Monsieur G. M. she is an object of desire, for the student Des Grieux she is pure and simple love. MacMillan’s exhilarating and engaging ballet gives new life to the character created by Prévost and popularized through opera, delineating the allure and tragedy of the protagonist and crafting splendid male roles. Fifty years after its debut, it has lost none of its dramatic and theatrical power.
L'Histoire de Manon

Acclaimed Canadian choreographer Anna-Marie Holmes’s exhilarating production, seen at the American Ballet Theatre and English National Ballet, invades the stage at La Scala with new sets and costumes by Luisa Spinatelli. Filled with action, passion and romance, this swashbuckling comedy, based on 'The Corsair' by Lord Byron, follows a dashing pirate, Conrad (Timofej Andrijashenko), as he journeys across the high seas to save his beautiful harem girl Medora (Nicoletta Manni). An exotic, breathtaking spectacle, and an adventure not to be missed.
