The event featured a Quarter-Final round bout in the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix between Michael Page and Paul Daley in the main event. On January 10, 2019 it was reported that a welterweight bout between Erick Silva and Yaroslav Amosov was added to the event. The card also featured the Bellator MMA debut of former K-1, Pride and UFC fighter Mirko Cro Cop, as he faced Roy Nelson in a rematch. The pair previously fought seven-and-a-half years ago at UFC 137.

Bellator 249: Cyborg vs. Blencowe was a mixed martial arts event held on October 15, 2020 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. This event aired live on CBS Sports Network. The event featured a Bellator Women's Featherweight World Championship bout between the champion Cris Cyborg and former title challenger Arlene Blencowe.

Bellator 178: Straus vs. Pitbull 4 took place on April 21, 2017 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut . The event aired live on Spike TV. Bellator returned to Mohegan Sun with a Featherweight world title fight pitting Daniel Straus against Patricio "Pitbull" Freire as the main event of Bellator 178. Straus and Freire have fought three times before; Freire won one by submission and once by decision, while Straus most recently won by decision. A middleweight bout between Ed Ruth and Aaron Goodwine was originally scheduled for this card, but failed to materialize. Ruth instead faced David Mundell.

The event featured a Women's Flyweight main event for the Bellator Women's Flyweight World Championship between Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Juliana Velasquez.
