In Coimbra, law student José Duarte and the beautiful Maria de Lisboa experience an intense love story, but after finishing his studies and feeling betrayed, José Duarte abandons Maria and goes to Porto, seeking success as a singer of Coimbra fado. But, unknowingly, he leaves her pregnant with a child.
Three friends embark on an adventure, and will spend the summer at the beach house of the father of one of them, in Barra da Tijuca. They meet new people, live new loves, make new friends and travel on an adventure that will change their lives!
Director Christian De Chalonge uses a docudrama-styled approach to tell the lonely story of Portugese workers in France. In hopes of avoiding the Army, a boy leaves Portugal bound for Paris to find a job. He meets other Portugese upon his arrival but spends most of his time wandering the streets of Paris when his friend cannot be found. The tedium of the feature overshadows the good intent to bring attention to the plight of immigrant workers struggling to survive in a new country.
