“The Inked Family” follows a couple of married Latvian-born tattoo artists – Anrijs and Monami Frost of online fame. They’re now living in Liverpool with their daughter, and their previous lives in Latvia seem almost surreal to them. The film traces Monami’s past, and the couple’s current lives and the success they’ve found as tattoo artists.

It’s 1919. The war is raging in Latvia and bodies pile high. A young rifleman’s (Thomas, 30) cold body is placed on a floor inside a mysterious sculptors' studio. Thomas wakes up with his head locked inside a cast and tries to find a way out from the dark room, but soon enough realizes that he is not the only one, who has woken up. The Ghost mother, a pagan goddess of death, tries to pull the young man into the afterlife. Meanwhile, the sculptor places Thomas’s death mask next to the others.

The State Electrotechnical Factory's cultural palace, or vefiņš, was opened on March 1, 1960, and was allocated for the factory's needs. However, today science has been banished from these walls. Alongside the brightest local pop artists, countless feet and legs dressed in pastels tread the boards of this stage every year to determine which group will take center stage at the Daugava Stadium during the Song and Dance Festival. Meanwhile, the young, promising and provocative documentary filmmaker Ingmārs Somis has come here to make a film about the "other side" of folk dancing on stage - about nationalistic programming, worn-out feet, sunburn and blouses tucked into underpants. He has decided to expose the teachers, lecture the parents, liberate the dancers, destroy the VEF cultural palace, get hold of the Great Kristaps and enter the Latvian cultural canon.

Drug addict Raitis, who has spent most of his life in the criminal world, gets to know the waitress Jana and hopes to turn his life around. But once again he is drawn into the darkness of the past.
