Things could truly be better for regionally successful entrepreneur Manfred Brenner in the mid-1980s. For Brenner, however, there is no reason to worry, because he is firmly counting on a breakthrough with his newly founded company FlowTex. With innovative horizontal drilling systems, he wants to revolutionize underground pipeline construction. But at first the big success remains elusive. He finally succeeds by relying on drilling systems and orders that don't even exist, piling up loan upon loan and leasing contract upon leasing contract. He uses charm and persuasion, and for a long time no one notices that Brenner is building a fraudulent consortium of companies with just a few helpers and a lot of falsified documents.
Summer 1945 in Germany. Jan Hinrichs is an experienced ship and salvage inspector. After the bankruptcy of his last employer, however, he is not above working as a simple diver. It's Felix birthday and his parents are at the door. Felix escapes through the backdoor and celebrates his special day like he wants: as a techno DJ in a dance club. One of his installed special effects is scaring the visitors that much, that they panic, leaving the club in a rush. The owner of the club gives Felix one more chance to pay back for the damage. However Felix accepts the deal and an adventurous on-the-road experience throughout Germany begins.
Early in the morning, Tom Wesnik is driving home from a party with his wife Esther. At the entrance to their home village of Sarezin, they are confronted by an unsettling sight: A police roadblock blocks their way, patrol cars and fire engines line the main road, three coffins are being carried out of a house. Photojournalist Tom immediately senses a story and heads to the scene with his camera.
Johannes Ganten, in his late 50s, known as John to his friends, leads a comfortable life as an emeritus professor. Everything has always come to him, which John takes for granted. Only the second warning and some very strange encounters gnaw away at Ganten's unshakeable self-confidence. The hours he then experiences change his life.
