McDull: The Pork of Music is virtually a musical, describing how the kindergarten, now destitute in HK's depressed economy, forms a student chorus to raise operating funds. The choir, of course, becomes wildly famous, and, guided by shady manager Big M (Ronald Cheng), reaches the apotheosis of HK culture: on stage with superstar Andy Lau.

They are frozen in place, stagnating without any direction. Around them, things change rapidly.

Depicts a man who gets into a motorcycle accident, his wife Mei, younger sister, and mother. It also tells the story of Ying, a young woman, who is murdered in their home, policeman Jing who is investigating the case, and his wife Yin, who is having an affair with a fellow policeman. They are all connected. The more Jing tries to solve the case, the more cryptic their relationship becomes, and past memories come to light.

In our daydreams, we always dream about who we can be and what we can do. Chak is always living between his dream state – where he is admired and can get any girl he wants – and the reality – where he is constantly teased by his sexually frustrated, foul-mouthed friends. One day, Chak's dream becomes reality when he finds the acceptance of a girl he likes, but cruel reality eventually stops him once more. Instead of running away, Chak must face the real world head-on this time around.

When Chan is diagnosed with terminal cancer, he decides to end his own life, but his grandson unexpectedly brings him an abandoned old dog. The encounter cannot change their destinies but allow them to accept changes that inevitably happen.

Hamid is a young Pakistani in Hong Kong who works hard to earn a living and has to take shortcuts sometimes. After he meets a Pakistan youth who loves Pakistani literature, he starts to reflect on his current way of life.

I made June when I didn’t have any inspiration to create a feature film. The documentary is about the rarely known stories in the social movement in June. At first the clips of videos were kept for sorting out my feelings, but after being edited, they were made into a documentary and became a record of history. Six scenes and voices were used to tell what happened during that month.

This is the first referendum held in Hong Kong and probably the last. Some people want to grasp the chance to directly participate in the democratic process. They try in various ways to push for greater democracy in society so that the people can become emancipated.

Hong Kong, twenty years later. The city is a perpetual construction site where the wheel of development must turn to build more shopping malls and higher residential towers. Enter members of the all-girl pop sensation, Heartbeat 48, an ever-expanding army of eco-warriors who are tasked with checking the heartbeats of centuries-old trees and villages and losing no time to pronounce their deaths. When Doy, an internet nerd and one of the few surviving village natives, is transported from the past into the fanciful realm of cute tutu outfits dresses, toy stethoscopes and hugging farewell routines – all staged for the benefit of the camera – he gets trapped a nightmare he can’t wake up from.

Set in Hong Kong, Eya is a shy teen who takes writing as a way to escape alienation, bullying and loneliness. On the school fun day Eya remains silent in the interview, but she is not the only one who finds life is too hard to bear. Everything is changed that morning.

Fishermen couple Ah Shing and Mei-wah, having lived from boat to shore, stayed together for most of their lives. After their son grew up, they have different visions towards the rest of their days. Ah Shing insists on fishing amid the decline of the local fishing industry. Mei-wah works as a factory worker and wishes for a more stable life. Even when there are subtle and profound changes in their relationships due to the different views, their affections for each other never stopped and they still support each other. This story is based on the real-life experience of the director's parents, and they play their own character in the film.

Hongkongers have been experiencing extremely difficult times due to the political movement caused by anti-Extradition Bill since the summer of 2019 followed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This film explores Hongkongers’ fear in various dimensions, be it a concept or actual physical experience, personal or political, private or public, or the mixing of these pairs.

Still Life (2024) is a self-reflexive documentary and intimate portrait of renowned self-taught painter Yeung Tong Lung (b. 1956, Fujian), best known for his large-scale figurative paintings that capture daily life in Hong Kong’s busy urban landscape. With a cinematic quality, Yeung’s paintings compress multiple perspectives and spaces into one canvas, coaching his audiences in different ways of seeing. The film follows Yeung over a three-year period, including his preparations for his 2021 solo exhibition Daily Practice at Hong Kong’s Blindspot Gallery.

Fong Ka-Man, has been leading a middle class lifestyle. One day, during a heavy rain in the dusk, bearing the fear of illness, she is unwillingly staying away from the rain inside the tunnel. She first encounters a weird tramp, and then a young farmer who is rushing to deliver his harvest. It’s about how the “normal” passes by the “abnormal”. What makes them “normal” and “abnormal” seems to be realistic, but maybe it is just a void. Fong Ka-Man is anxious to find an exit from the difficult circumstance, but accidentally she finds out that what she yearns for is the disappeared end of this city.

Chu collaborated with young dancers and choreographers to explore prolific Hong Kong poet Yam Gong’s “Daily Life” (1987), which describes the nightmarish experience of falling seriously ill.
