Set in the fictional town of Kamurocho, the story unfolds across two intersecting timelines—1995 and 2005. In 1995, four friends eager to escape their restrictive lives in an orphanage dive into the yakuza-controlled underworld of 1995 Kamurocho. Meanwhile, in 2005, their friendship is deteriorated, as tensions between the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance are at a boiling point.

Machika Otokawa (Mai Fukagawa) loses her future lover, Yukito Hatta (Yuta Koseki).. Sawako Fukai (Shuri), Yukito's ex-lover, appears before Machika, who is at a loss.. By chance, Sawako ends up living with Machika.. Machika's family welcomes the cheerful and thoughtful Sawako, but the voluptuousness and madness that Sawako occasionally shows spreads like poison to Machika's family and surroundings.. Kensuke Otokawa (Sota Ryosuke), Machika's younger brother who is attracted to Sawako's bewitching charm, Shinji Otsu (Kohei Shoji), a detective who approaches Machika, and Nono Igarashi (Hirai Amon), Kensuke's art school classmate, a reporter Kazuomi Makihara (Kazuya Tanabe), who suspects Machika, is quietly creeped out by Sawako's madness.. Why does the crazy Sawako target the people around Machika one after another…?

Nakano Hitomi is an ordinary employee who works for the Metropolitan Police Department’s General Affairs Section. Her job is to check the receipts for investigation expenses that the detectives pay in advance, but she is extremely sharp in detecting cases because she was raised by her father, who is a swindler. When serial killings and injuries occur, she is also the first to realise that the victims' names are linked to a word game in which one victim’s name contains the last character of the name of the previous victim. Hitomi uses detective Togawa of the First Investigative Division, whom she became acquainted with after finding discrepancies in his receipts and scheming lawyer Shirai Shinnosuke who works his way into the favour of victims to find work that pays well, to get close to the truth of the case.

With his father's skills, he soon becomes the ace of the basketball team, and captures the heart of the school Madonna, Minaduki Mana. Suddenly, life at school becomes all rosy, surrounded by good friends and liked by all. However, his friends soon begin to suspect the secret behind the change in him...

Tsuchiya, who lives with his single mother in Osaka, does not get serious work once he graduates from high school, but rather devotes himself to mailing jokes to the “Ohgiri” variety show. Seeking to be recognized as a show “Legend,” he devotes his entire life to laughter, setting himself the task of submitting hundreds of entries per day. At loose ends, he encounters a drifter, Pink, who finds him work at his bar while Tsuchiya now devotes himself to becoming a “postcard craftsman” who submits material to a radio program. The entertainers on the program begin to use material from his postcards. A comedian Tsuchiya admires, one of a comic duo called “Bacon,” says on the air that he admires Tsuchiya’s material and that he wants “to do material together.” Dreaming of another chance, Tsuchiya heads for Tokyo.
