Epitácio is the driver of a widower musical entrepreneur. Concerned with the boss' happiness, Epitácio tries to find him a wife and introduces him to Lucy, the children's teacher, who dreams of becoming a singer.

The young singer Beth is torn between love for the honest pianist Guy; and the powerful smuggler Estênio, who sponsors his promising career.

During the 1960s, between nightclubs in the South Zone and dances in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, a musical rhythm known as sambalanço emerged, mixing jazz, samba and Latin music.
