A man called Nero is sneaking political prisoners out of a small country into nearby Mexico hiding them in cargo. He outwardly runs a high-class nightclub while smuggling behind closed doors. Although Escobar, Nero's best friend, knows that President Saldivar is secretly allowing them to carry on this illegal trade, he is afraid of attracting people's attention. Heian era Japan. A gentleman discovers an abandoned baby and raises the boy as his adopted son, naming him Nijihito after the rainbow in the sky at the time he was found. The only clue to the boy’s origin is a special drum found with him. Nijihito proves to be a drumming prodigy, outshining his best friend Tatsuru. Although young Ibuki is secretly in love with Nijihito, he falls in love with a mysterious woman he sees playing the flute outside one night.
A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, leading a delegation of stage artists, comes to Moscow and a female russian government official welcomes his entourage. The congressman is hoping, through the results of the visit, to make a name for himself in order to move up to the Senate. Meanwhile, the female government official - whose nickname is "Iron Lady" - keeps a watchful eye on the him in suspicion of espionage. As a result, the two get along like cats and dogs.

Taking shelter in the tavern is Sydney Carton and Lucie Manette. This is their first meeting. Lucie Manette, a young woman who has been raised as an orphan and a ward of Tellson's bank, has learned that her father is alive and has recently been released from prison after eighteen years of unjust incarceration. She is traveling to the French suburb of Saint Antoine with Mr. Jarvis Lorry, a longtime Tellson's employee who had managed her father's affairs before his imprisonment. They find her father at the home of Ernest Defarge, a former domestic of Dr. Manette's who has housed the doctor since his release. Though her father is teetering on the brink of insanity, she solemnly vows that she will be true to him and devote her life to helping him recover himself.

Henri Dunant, a traveler who is on his way from Geneva, Switzerland, to Paris, happens to pass through this battlefield in Solferino. He is greatly shocked when setting his eyes on this graphic scene that tells the tragedy of war. As he stands watching dumbfounded, an injured Austrian soldier clings to his feet, begging for some water. Dunant has heard about a nearby church serving as an emergency field hospital. So he races there in a bid to save the life of the still-breathing solider.
In 20th century Paris, a farewell reception is being held after the a millionaire who had founded many enterprises. His will says that his eldest son George will succeed the count with the stipulation that he marry a woman of either blue blood or high society within half a year but Georges dreams of marrying and loving forever a woman destined to cross his path. He feels oppressed by the idea of getting married merely to fulfill his father's will. His friend tells George to go easy, advising him that marriage is one thing and love another. He then leads George to a revue theater he knows well. George, who gets drunk at the theater, remembers his father's advice in the will: Go to church when in distress. He heads for a church. However, on the way to the church, he falls down. At the moment he thinks in fading consciousness that he is freezing to death, he sees an angel.
