On October 14, 1955, at the intersections of Route 1 and Route 3 on the National Highway, the Chevrolet driven by Delia Nieves hit the Cryssler driven by Nelson Rodríguez. Because of this collision, a year later my mother was born.

On June 14, 1973, the House of Dafne Larrosa in Uruguay, was raided by the military of the dictatorship. She and the members of her family linked to the Tupamaro National Liberation Movement, were arrested and her brother assassinated. Dafne manages to escape to Cuba, where she recieves political asylum. After more than thirty years of exile, Dafne returns to Uruguay. Returning to the house was like a tunnel of time were childhood and old age, the living and the dead, reality and creation coexist at the same time.

This unusual documentary pixilation is based on images discovered in Cuban court archives. In the past, the Communist regime’s prying security forces surveilled not only the enemies of the regime, but also the activities of nonconformists, misfits and dissidents.

The dark forest is the record of a long journey that connects two funerary rituals in Cuba: the state burial to say goodbye to the fallen in the Angolan war and a spiritist rite to welcome the spirits of the past that return to the world of the living. These events, captured by Cuban amateur documentaries filmed in 1987, intertwine to form the backbone of this film whose main reflections revolve around loss and oblivion.
