The King and the Thief: one is a rich ruler, the other is a poor gardener named Lešek, who loves his Jolanka. But her father doesn't want to give her to him as his wife unless she brings him a ring and a bag of gold coins. And then Leška meets the devil and offers him a magic hat that will make him invisible, and a feather that will open any closed safe. It's hard to resist and not steal. But, as the devil says, everyone can decide for themselves whether to choose the path to hell. You can see how it turned out for Lešek and who the devil took away in this fairy tale based on Polish folk motifs.
About the fact that honesty will get you the furthest... The main characters of the fairy tale are two tinkers, a now extinct profession in which men travel the countryside and repair earthenware pots for peasants and the like. The older of them, Jura, tries to earn some extra money in all sorts of ways other than honest work, while the younger Martin is an honest man from the bone and a hard worker to behold. We also meet poor Vojta, who catches birds, the beautiful and rich Eliška and robbers, but most importantly we understand that honesty will get you the furthest in life.
Among the apprentices learning the confectionery trade is Honza Králíček, who is not enjoying it at all and would rather be working with cars. The fairy Cukřenka wants to help him and lends him a magic bag. Since then, Honza has been doing well and is also trying hard to study for his exams.
A story about how it is sometimes very easy to make a bad decision, but very difficult to make up for it... Prince Philip managed to sacrifice his friend's life quite easily, but it was not so easy to deal with his own conscience. Although the prince regrets his action, he does not know how to make amends. It is only the fearless and clever Bětka who manages the seemingly impossible and together with the prince rescues Martin from the captivity of the evil sleigh.
A fairy tale in which the devil can make hell for people on earth, but is powerless against common sense.
