Sérgio Sant'Anna

Antônio Martins, respected theatrical critic, is a very rational man. But a chance meeting with young Inês, a nude painting model, is going to rock him. Inês keeps a relationship with painter José Torres Campana, an older man with a deep influence over her. Antônio gets jealous, and the three become characters of a drama saturated with desire and danger.

After a chance encounter on the elevator, the lives of Mary Ann, a widowed English teacher, and Pedro, a recently divorced man, intersect against the hot backdrop of Rio de Janeiro.

A reflection on books and culture through testimonies and images from the Rio de Janeiro's National Library. In this work commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, the director forgoes voice-over in favor of a polyphonic discourse, combining more informative speeches from representatives of institutions with speeches by, for example, Sérgio Sant'Anna and Lygia Fagundes Telles, who express, in a different tone, their passion and vocation for books.

An almost forgotten writer is interviewed by a journalist.
