Tibor lives happily in his village with his wife. At least that's what he thinks. One day a series of strange occurrences begin to unfold.

Janos Flandera (Frigyes Funtek) is a student who is kept by an older woman in this depressing drama. When he applies to a prestigious school in Moscow, he is turned down because he is a gigolo. Not only is his scholarship request denied, he is sentenced to a year in prison at hard labor. Janos abandons the jealous older woman who helped deny his entrance to the school. Punished after defending a political prisoner, Janos takes solace in love affairs, but his union with the crippled daughter of a prominent political official puts his life in danger.

Klára moves out from her husband. Her friend, Ági, helps her. They make a total of seven turns by car. Although they take the same route there and back every time, each round is different. “January 2” is a realist story about a separation from the wife’s perspective with all the challenges she faces following this tough decision.

The film has a broken meaning, the last time he was a proofreader for a book publisher, he is now unemployed. Ever since he was a child, he has always been the one who pulls the short one, and he takes the wrong one. At the beginning of the film, he finds himself in such a "bunbak" situation again, and then he decides to become a professional bunbak...

A dying old woman leaves her apartment to a young man on condition he marry her Romanian niece so that she can legally come to live in Hungary.
