The story of the inspiring life of the new young Carmelite saint who lived in the 20th century, died at the age of just 19 years old, and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1993. St. Teresa of Jesus of the Andes, known officially as "St. Teresa of the Andes", grew up in a close-knit, upper middle class Catholic family in Santiago, Chile, was very popular with her friends and relatives, entered Carmel at age 19, and died before her 20th birthday.

During the socialist government of Marmaduke Grove in 1932, a group of villagers decide to take some land in the area of Palmilla. Almost like a mythical journey, problems arise when seated and in a position to bring the socialist ideal in the population. A movie that because of the coup was not released in Chile and was only terminated by Littin in exile in Mexico.

A Chilean teacher, Ramiro, is sentenced to internal exile in a southern town where tidal waves often appear. He falls for a woman, Maite, whose father asks him to take her away. Although he gets his freedom he doesn't leave and when the water rises, Maite and her father die, and Ramiro flees to the hills.
