The film documents Bill Reid's own trip home to visit his parents in Sarnia, Ontario, and the family's conversations about the communication difficulties and generational differences in values that have complicated their familial relationship.

Students seeking greater control over the hiring of faculty occupy the offices of the Political Science Department at McGill University. The film crew lives with the students and follows their action through confusion, argument, dissent, and negotiations with faculty. The result is an intimate view of a student political action.

Stolen money, a love intrigue and a police chase unite with the main theme, which is a day in the life of an old woman who scratches out a living collecting used pop bottles and picking through back alleys. She is not too poor, however, to return a kindness.
