The year is 1993. 14-year-old Alex Ryabinin lives a normal teenage life - looking for adventure, trying to protect himself from hooligans, does not want learn music, does not know how to meet girls and which adults to follow as an example. On the one hand - an honest but poor family with a saleswoman mother and a father who is a docent, on the other - the dangerous world of an Afghan veteran Uncle Alik. And there's also the girl Zhenya, whose encounter triggers a series of irreversible events that will forever change the life of Alex. Running away from hooligans, Alex steals a car of local criminal authority, and in an instant everything changes. Will he be able to cope with all the problems, being in the heart of events? Will he be able to save his family and finally understand who he is? Only one thing is clear - life will never be the same again. Not for Alex himself, nor for the whole of Russia.
This story began back in 1986. Perestroika was already underway, but the Soviet Union had not yet collapsed. It was a time when there was no Internet, hypermarkets and even mobile phones, but they drank water from the tap, there were no traffic jams in Moscow, and the keys to the apartment were quietly left under the rug.

The Great Patriotic War, winter 1941. Food supplies ran out and supplies were blocked. Besieged Leningrad was dying of hunger: 125 grams of bread per day were given to employees, dependents and children. It was then that a gang appeared in the city, engaged in fraud and robbery. The criminals were mainly engaged in forgery of food cards. The name of their gang, ZIG ZAG, stood for "Defenders of German Interests —The Banner of Adolf Hitler."
Danya is a successful advertiser with delayed life syndrome. He strives with all his might towards his goal, but life makes its own adjustments, or rather death. Postponing everything for later, Danya starts an old disease and suddenly falls into a coma. He finds himself in the waiting room of the afterlife, which suspiciously resembles the airport from his latest commercial. There are only two flights — to heaven or hell. However, the chance to return to the world of the living is not lost either. While whiling away the time at the local bar "Darling, I won't call you back", Danya rethinks her life and tries to fix everything.
On a cold winter’s day Sergey Sobolev, a major at the local police office, is driving to the hospital where his wife is about to give birth to their child. High from happiness, he’s driving too fast and runs down a boy on a passage walk, who dies. Now the major has only two options: go to prison or conceal the crime. Sobolev decides to compromise with his conscience and calls on a colleague to help him out. But the case turns out to be messy and when Sobolev finally changes his mind and tries to make up for his deed, it’s already too late…
