Biography
Ulla Sonja Sallert, born Andersson, was a Swedish stage and screen actress and singer. She graduated from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 1943, made her film debut in Börje Larsson's "Det är min musik" (1942), and stage debut at Oscarsteatern, Stockholm, in the operetta "Serenade" in 1944. Ulla Sallert became one of the foremost operetta and musical singers in Sweden in the 1950s. She was part of the original cast of "Ben Franklin in Paris"(1964-65); the role of Diane de Vobrillac was written especially for her.
Known For
Based on the novel with the same name by Astrid Lindgren. Lonely little Bertil befriends the tiny Nils Karlsson-Däumling, who lives in a mouse hole under his bed and teaches him a magic spell to shrink down and share wondrous adventures in his secret world. Their idyllic fun, however, is threatened by the sinister rat Schofeline, forcing Bertil to summon all his newfound courage.

It's the early 20s, just after World War I. In Sweden, restrictions on alcohol are harder than most people like and so, smuggling is abundant. In this particular little town, smuggling is ruled by one man, who is the king of smugglers. The smugglers who work for him don't get to keep much of the profit themselves, but if they don't work for him, they get in trouble, which his henchmen make sure. However, Albert Jansson arrives in town and starts taking up the competition with the smuggler king. Meanwhile, the police, together the customs office, try to catch the smugglers.
