The power of Satan is highlighted in four historical tales: the betrayal and subsequent arrest of Jesus, the Spanish Inquisition, the French Revolution and the execution of Marie Antoinette, and the Finnish War of Independence in 1918.

A young woman, Nina, works as a singer at a Copenhagen variety theatre, but when her contract expires she suddenly finds herself with no income to support her and her old mother. Upon seeing a newspaper advertisement looking for singers for a theatre in St. Petersburg, Nina jumps at the chance – and a few weeks later she is on her way. However, the advertisement is a hoax, and she actually ends up in a notorious brothel. She fears that all hope is out, but at the same time her sailor boyfriend has just landed in St. Petersburg and is leaving no stone unturned to find his beloved.

Two fine gentlemen battle brutishly for the favour of two fine ladies. However, one of the gentlemen forgets his suitcase at the station, and his competitor spots his chance to gain a huge lead. (Stumfilm.dk)

Two musicians, Pat and Patachon, arrive in a peaceful little town. When they are about to be arrested because noise is not tolerated on the streets, a young solicitor helps them out of trouble and subsequently finds them jobs with an elderly laundrywoman. The town’s wealthy men are content with their quiet community and refuse to listen to the solicitor’s proposals for improvements and new initiatives to help everyone make money. However, with the help of Pat and Patachon, the solicitor cleverly persuades the men to change their minds. Soon, life flourishes in the little town, and Pat and Patachon are celebrated as its saviours. (Stumfilm.dk)

Jørgen wants to propose to Marie as soon as he has been promoted and can offer her a proper home. Indeed, his future looks promising until his father, who is a bookkeeper in the town bank, tells Jørgen that he has embezzled and spent money from the bank. In order to uphold his father’s honour, Jørgen must raise the missing amount, and the only one he knows with that much ready money is his uncle, the canny merchant Ole Konge, whom his father detests. Ole Konge will only help if Jørgen marries his daughter Amalie, who has long pined for her cousin from afar. Sacrificing his own happiness for the sake of his family, Jørgen enters into a loveless marriage. He thinks about Marie every day until a dramatic incident makes him see Amalie in a new light. Nikolajsen is shocked by the news that he has an adult daughter who lives in Jutland – where wild wolves wander! His friends – the baker, the butcher, the tailor and the shoemaker – are entranced by the honour and glory they would gain by venturing forth and exterminating the feral wolves. Unfortunately for their chances of success, Nikolajsen and Co. decide to hire Pat and Patachon as their hunting guides.
