“Wedding in Bessarabia” is a story of a young couple who recently got married in Romania. He is a young conductor from Bucharest and she is a gifted pianist from the Republic of Moldova. One day, they decide to have another wedding in Moldova, hoping to get the money to pay the account for a new apartment. The movie exploits the difference of traditions and habits between Romania and Bessarabia, and a sort of a competition which arises between the families involved.

Doina, a 12-year-old girl, has her first period on the day her grandma has a stroke. Since then, their roles are inverted and Doina has to learn how to deal with the challenges of adulthood.

Salix Caprea (“Goat Willow” tree) is the type of tree that was supposed to cover a large meadow area in a small village in the Republic of Moldova. As part of a donation from foreign investors, a couple of thousands of trees were planted by the Americans. After a couple of years, during a visit along with delegation from the state, they wanted to see the growth of the trees. In a comedic investigation, the mayor and the police officer discovered the area all empty and the “goat willow” trees were all gone, eaten by…the goats.

The film is based on the confessions of four protagonists who were forcibly picked up and sent to Siberia in the second wave of deportations on the night of July 6-7, 1949. Each segment has a separate story, and as a whole they point to the horrors. and the dramas that tens of thousands of Bessarabians went through during the Stalinist period.
