Malhação is a Brazilian television series for the teenage audience. The soap started in 1995, and was set in a fictional Gym Club called Malhação on Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. Through the years the location varied slightly. Although the name of the soap remains the same, it is now set in the Múltipla Escolha High School.
As in any respectable office, two interns watch boredly as the employees argue over bureaucratic matters. But what was supposed to be just another routine day at a travel agency soon turns into an absurd yet strikingly realistic debate about our purpose in the world, what art is, whether destiny exists, and what an intern’s role in a company really is.
About to turn 100 years old, Santo Amaro School closed its doors in 2020, amid the pandemic, leaving former students in deep sorrow. The story of the school is now told by different generations of students, teachers, nuns and employees, who return to the school building to remember their time over there: an unreachable past, which, through memories, becomes present once again.
