Poor Nastya is a Russian telenovela originally aired from 31 October 2003 to 30 April 2004 on the STS. Based on the imperial setting of the 19th century, the series reached international success and was shown in Ukraine, China, Israel, Serbia, Georgia, Greece, Bulgaria and more than twenty countries worldwide. With the budget of $11,8million, it is the most expensive Russian television project of all time. The sequel was planned, but had not been made yet.

Valentina, a youthful and attractive woman, works as a lecturer at a prestigious university. Her daughter Olga is only sixteen, yet she is already a student there. Mother and daughter live in perfect harmony despite having completely different personalities. But one day, discord enters their peaceful life and soon turns into open hostility. The reason is a young graduate student named Pavel. Valentina falls in love with him and believes that his romantic talks about first love are meant for her. However, Pavel’s true beloved is not Valentina at all — but her daughter Olga.
The eldest son, who left for St. Petersburg, where he works as a detective, comes to the family of a crooked merchant and shopkeeper Grigory Tsybukin. Parents decide to marry him - his son is already 28 years old. They find a poor, but beautiful, clean and modest girl who meekly marries an already worn-out and balding man from the city, decently "laying by the collar". There is a merry wedding, and the husband leaves, leaving another worker in the family...
Tolla is an unemployed translator whose wife is leaving him. Despondent and weak, he submits to the suggestion of an acquaintance to have a contract placed on the man that his wife is seeing. Instead, however, he arranges for the hit to be placed on himself. Before the contract is executed, he develops a relationship with a prostitute, and then changes his mind. In order to survive he takes the obvious course of action, which turns out to have possibly been unnecessary, and then he must deal with the guilt.

The post catches the eye of the "general" and after a loud scandal, Irina is given the most hopeless TV show, which is likely to be closed soon.
