April, 1940. The eyes of the world are on Narvik, a small town in northern Norway, a source of the iron ore needed for Hitler's war machine. Through two months of fierce winter warfare, the German leader is dealt with his first defeat.

When a young mother is responsible for the accidental death of her husband, she persuades the dead husband's identical twin to take his identity.

When 17-year-old Anna Lorentz returns to Narvik in 1940 with her older sisters and brother, they find their town destroyed. They recover the family home, and survive the years that follow by running a hair salon. All this time, Anna nurtures her own dream.
