The First Years is a Dutch series for young people in which real-life situations are recreated. The series sheds light on subjects that pupils in the first year of secondary school may be confronted with.

A mysterious diver hiding in Amsterdam's canal system embarks on a rampage of gruesome murders, terrifying city officials and leaving few clues for the city's best detective, who doesn't suspect that both his new girlfriend and twelve-year-old daughter may be closer than he is to finding the killer.

Hans falls in love with Brenda, an Indonesian girl. Hans' father sells an old building to Brenda's father, so that he can open an Indonesian restaurant there. Hans' father is the owner of a snackbar himself. The restaurant becomes very succesful, but some racists can't handle that, so they set the snackbar on fire...
