The Guldbagge Awards is an official and annual Swedish film awards ceremony honoring achievements in the Swedish film industry. Winners are awarded a statuette depicting a rose chafer, better known by the name Guldbaggen. The awards, first presented in 1964 at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, are overseen by the Swedish Film Institute. It is described as the Swedish equivalent of the Academy Awards. The awards ceremony was first televised in 1981.

When George (Sven-Bertil Taube), a half-blind widower, learns that his children (Malin Morgan, Dan Ekborg) have conceived an elaborate plan to get their hands on his assets before he dies, he must confront his life choices. After catching his young home help Maria (Rebecca Ferguson's screen debut) red-handed in the act of stealing, George blackmails her into assisting him in a counterattack, triggering off a chain reaction in the family. "The Birdcatcher's Son" - According to Faroese law, the birdwatcher Esmar will lose his lease within one year, thus forced to leave both his house and his land unless he makes sure he and his wife Johanna have a son. Because Johanna has just given birth to date, they decide what they think is their last and best chance; to jointly find another man who can make Johanna with children.

Before World War II, Swedish workers had to deal with low wages, scarce work, and the extensive importation of foreign labor, particularly for the purpose of breaking strikes. This did not make foreigners of any stripe very popular, and those from "guest worker" countries were particularly disliked. In this film, set in 1938, a half-Polish boy goes to Poland in search of his mother, runs into financial and psychological difficulties there, and is sent back to a Swedish mental hospital. In another story, an unfortunate woman suffers a miscarriage and ends up at the asylum where the Polish boy is being kept.

This is story about an elderly man who's wife has just passed away. He is carrying her remains in an antique vase for burial at their cottage in the country. The story relates the trip of the old man, his son, a middle aged rock singer who lives a bohemian life in an old bus, and the son's young girl friend (Catti). Many comical mishaps and adventures befall them (and the urn) on the way to the cottage, where the story has a surprise ending. On a deeper level, the story is about the relationships between the three main characters and how they change during the journey.

Nilsson thinks the director Richard Hobert makes such terrible films and he had to go ask him why.
