A young investigator fresh from the university gets assigned an arson case. 18-year-old Epp-Kai has admitted to the crime but he cannot see the girl's motive. His partner, an experienced investigator, already has enough work and doesn't think it's necessary to have further conversations with the accused. The young investigator senses however that Epp-Kai is hiding something.

The family where Epp serves is preparing to receive important guests on whom the career of the head of the family depends. Everyone is busy preparing the gala dinner, and only the owner's son Eugen does not take any part in this. At night he suddenly becomes ill, and Epp is sent for help. On a rainy night, she spends a long time looking for a doctor, as a result of which she becomes seriously ill. And Eugen’s illness, as it turned out, was only the result of his suspiciousness...

Jaak is a young labourer always facing some kind of issues and it seems he always rides for a fall. At the construction work of a new thermal power station, Jaak meets young people from the Young Communist League who won't find faults with him and are ready to help him out.
