The events begin in a small Egyptian village in 1920, when a demon named Anees marries a human girl to have offspring. Her father discovers the truth and kills her to prevent her from becoming pregnant with the demon. Anees then embarks on a long journey of revenge with his family, spanning over three generations, revealing dark secrets and unexpected surprises.

Riad raises his orphaned niece, Abeer, as his own. But tensions flare between Abeer and his greedy wife, who tries to keep her away at all costs.

The intertwining love stories that take place during the travel of a number of passengers on board a tour bus between Cairo and Mansoura.

"The Day They Killed the Singing" revolves around a conflict between two brothers, in a journey searching for the reason for existence and the secret of the universe, and the conflict between the spirit of tolerance and love on the one hand, and fanaticism and hatred on the other hand.
