The true story of a group of Czechoslovak citizens who are building a paper industry in Alto Catumbela, Angola, as part of economic development aid. Based on a true story, the film describes the raid on the settlement, the kidnapping by UNITA gunmen, the hardships of the devastating march and the mental and physical exhaustion resulting from the situation.

The Mráz family is preparing for holidays. Parents are traveling to the spa and little Petr is going to the country to his grandparents. In addition, to the chaotic preparations, mother's friend is bringing a dog Blek. She wants Petr to look after it. Grandfather welcomes Petr and the dog with pleasure because he needs the ally against strict grandmother. Grandfather is not very skillful and thus grandmother often experiences troubles with his ideas.

In the spring of 1945, the last war clashes took place on the Czech-Moravian border. However, amidst the heavy gunfire, colourful boyhood adventures also take place. The main characters, however, are oblivious to the dangers lurking around them and bravely enter situations in which even adults would hesitate.

After her parents' divorce, Petra lives in her mother's new harmonious family in a small town. However, she feels that she was cheated of a lot when she was unable to spend two years in Cuba with her own father. Therefore, she welcomes her father's offer to move to Prague with him. She is especially attracted by his promise to help her get into art school. However, she misses the warm family atmosphere in Prague very much, even though her father's new wife tries to understand her. Although her father provided for her materially, he did not really care for her. Petra's crisis is compounded by a negative opinion from an expert about her artistic talent...
