Dedicated to the sisters who fought back with the last strengths in them, The War of Roses documents the struggles and aftermath of four women in different environments that encountered sexual assaults, shedding light on the underlying structural violence sustaining the unequal power relations in gender.

With this film, the director parallels and interweaves two gay love stories in a pretty diaspora and literary way.

The first public gay wedding in Taiwan has stirred up considerable controversy, including a local campaign to ban this film. It tells the story of Yosheng and Gary, the first gay couple to have a public wedding in Taiwan. Their wedding was held in conventional Taiwanese fashion: a wedding banquet with friends and family and even the mayor of Taipei as the promised wedding moderator.

A frank and candid portrait of the lives and family relations of three gay teenagers in Taipei. One breaks up with his boyfriend before going abroad to study, the other craves for love, and the third one moonlights as a crossdresser. A bold statement against norms in a Confucean society.

It is a bluebird's song of comrades and their joy, tinged with melancholy premonition-a song that comes from afar as though to rub shoulders with life directly, only to pass on. A story of two marriages, one lesbian and one gay. The parallel structure lays bare the complexity of queer love, but also the cruelty inherent to love itself. Domestic violence, faithfully captured by the camera, threads its way like a deep silent river, cutting out its course and leaving a path of marks and scars. The survivor is like a child who cannot explain, but can only remember.

In 2011, Mickey Chen wrote an autobiography about his torn-apart family and his life as the gay eldest son. Since he passed away in December 2018, this documentary film of the same name was left unfinished but shows enough promise and paints a heartbreaking portrait of his troubled family.
